Ingredients:
1 cup cooked rice (cooled to room temperature)
2 tablespoons tamarind paste
1 tablespoon peanuts (optional)
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon chana dal (split chickpeas)
1/2 teaspoon urad dal
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
2-3 dried red chilies (broken)
A pinch of asafetida
Curry leaves
Salt to taste
Instructions:
Cook rice and let it cool to room temperature.
In a pan, heat sesame oil. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add chana dal, urad dal, peanuts (if using), dried red chilies, asafetida, and curry leaves. Sauté until the dal turn golden brown.
Add tamarind paste and turmeric powder. Let it cook for 15-20 mins till
Mix in the cooked rice, ensuring the paste coats the rice evenly. Add salt to taste.
Garnish with fresh curry leaves.
Serve Pulihora (Tamarind Rice) with a side of yogurt or a South Indian pickle. Enjoy your flavorful meal! Adjust the tamarind paste and red chilies according to your taste preferences.
